7 3 Bible Story Picture

When was the last time you witnessed something unbelievable? This morning in children's ministry, we continued in the Old Testament Book of Numbers, where we see a man, who didn't believe in God named Balaam, have quite a supernatural experience. Balak, the king of Moab, had called Balaam to come and curse the Israelites because they were too powerful. God told Balaam not to go, but Balaam was stubborn as a donkey (pun intended). On the way, the donkey Balaam was riding attempted to stop moving forward, but Balaam kept whipping her until all the sudden, the donkey started talking. God made the donkey start talking! The donkey was more in tune with God's desires than Balaam. And then the Lord revealed the angel that had been blocking Balaam's path. God makes amazing things happen, and this was one of them. Then another amazing thing happens, Balaam will no longer curse the Israelites, but he will only bless them. He even shares in Numbers 24:17, "I see him, but not now; I perceive him, but not near. A star will come from Jacob, and a scepter will arise from Israel." This statement is a clear pointing to Jesus' future arrival on earth. As you continue the conversation this week, talk about the impossible things you have seen or heard about God doing and how He makes the impossible possible.

Some starter questions for you:

Elementary

  1. Why do you think it took Balaam three times and a talking donkey to realize that God was trying to tell him something?
  2. The mouth can be used to bless or to curse people. How can you use your mouth to bless others? When is it easier to bless others?  When is it harder?

Preschool

  1. How many animals have you heard speak in a language you can understand? If your pet started speaking to you, how would you feel? Would you listen?
  2. What are some things you can say to be kind when others disagree with you?
