11 3 Bible Story Picture

Every week in Children at IBC with every bible story we learn, we remind our kids about how the whole story of scripture points to Jesus. Today's story is such a clear connection to Jesus as we learned about the covenant God made with King David to make all of Israel's future kings come from David's family including the Messiah, Jesus. David had wanted to honor God by building a beautiful palace for the Ark of the Covenant, but God said no. God had never asked David to build a temple for the Ark. David's legacy would be much greater than a building. David, from Bethlehem, would be the forefather of the greatest ever Bethlehemite. This week celebrate Christmas, as the covenant with David points directly to the birth of Jesus.

Here are some starter questions:

Elementary

  1. David had a plan that seemed like a good one - to build a temple - but God's plan was bigger - for Jesus the Messiah to come from David's family line. Why do you think that God sometimes wants more than our 'ok' ideas/plans?
  2. How would you have felt if God's message was for you?
  3. How do you think David felt? (Read 2 Samuel 7:18-29 for help)

Preschool

  1. God honored David with an important promise. What did he promise David?
  2. God's kingdom is eternal. How long is eternal? Do you think God's kingdom looks like kingdoms on earth?
