FAQ

How do I check my child in?
On your first visit we love for you to be welcomed by our staff in the Welcome Center. They are there to answer questions, direct you and your child to the right location for worship and make your experience at Irving Bible Church be as smooth and encouraging as possible. You will find them on the Town Square level in the area where the fish tank is.

Each ministry event that you bring your child to at IBC will necessitate the need to check in at our kiosks. By giving the last four digits of your phone number your child will be checked in to their class, you will receive their name tag as well as two claim tickets to be used when the event has ended and you go to pick up your child/children. You may check in multiple children at one time and receive one set of claim tickets that may be used for each child.

Upon entrance to the classroom you will be asked for your cell phone number. This is to insure that there is a contact avenue in case of emergency. We ask that you keep your phone on vibrate while you are in worship in the event that we need to contact you while your child is in our care. If you do not have access to a cell phone, the security code on your claim ticket will be put on the screens in the worship service in the event that your child is in need of your company.

What happens during a typical Sunday Children’s service and what curriculum is used?
Our Children’s Ministry team strives to make every Sunday the best part of every child’s week. Our teaching is relevant, fun and engaging with emphasis on equipping them for the journey. Our passion is for every child to deepen their soul, build relationships and join the mission. We do this by making the time we have with them be intentional, fun, relevant and engaging. Over the course of two years, children will learn over 75 bible stories that instill God’s truth and character traits into your child’s life. By syncing our curriculum your child’s learning is streamlined and consistent. Early Childhood classes use My First Look curriculum and Elementary use 252 Basics. www.myfirstlook.org, www.252basics.org.

Each Sunday your child will participate in large group activity that encourage worship, bible teachings that teach Christ’s love for them and those around them, small group time and crafts that incorporate missional awareness and service. We believe that children at very young ages are capable of witnessing Christ’s love for them and are able to show that love to others they come in contact with in playgroups, at school and at home.

How can I serve?
We LOVE our volunteers in IBC Children’s Ministry! Each volunteer becomes an integral part of our team as we band together to guide children to learn about Christ. It’s an exciting and important role that they fill and we’d love to have you join the team! servekids.irvingbible.org will lead you to the information that will get you started in the volunteer process which includes a brief application, a background check if you are over 18, a brief interview with a staff member and you’re ready to roll!

We are intentional about our volunteer process because we want to 1. ensure the safety of the children in our care as well as the safety of the volunteers that serve them. 2. we want to make sure we help our team members, that’s you!, find the right fit and be comfortable where they decide to serve. We’re happy to answer questions, walk along side you and make your experience serving in Children’s Ministry the best part of your week!

An example of some of the ways you can serve in Children’s Ministry are:
Small group leader
Large group leader
SonShine Pal
Resource/activity preparation
Special events team
Kiosks
Tech

My child has special needs, do you have a place for them?
SonShine Pals are volunteers who assist children with special needs in a general classroom with children their age. Please contact the SonShine Pal Director to match your child with an appropriate Pal. 972.560.4610 or Click here to email.

SonShine Pals are special hearted volunteers and are not always in immediate availability but we work hard to make the volunteer position available to those who desire to share Christ’s love with children who have differences. Your child may be placed on a waiting list, but we work hard to accommodate their needs the best possible way.

Security
At Irving Bible Church, the safety of your child is a high priority. For this reason, all ZoneWorld areas use ibcLink for security. When you check-in your child, you will be provided with a name tag for your child and a corresponding pick-up tag. When you return after the service, present the pick-up tag to the teacher.

All our teachers have been through an application process. Their teacher nametag tells you that they have completed the process. This process includes an extensive application, reference checks, a background check and an interview.

Why Parents Matter
To be sure, IBC provides a tremendous ministry for children, blessed by volunteers and a loving staff, creative and fun programs—all with a heart for helping children know and love Jesus. But the most important influencers in a child’s life are his parents, followed by siblings, along with peers, schools and mentors. The Church’s level of influence actually comes in third—similar to that of a counselor or extended family member.

Unfortunately, the complicated, busy lives of our parents as well as competition from TV, Internet, peers and schools can often cause moms and dads to give up and trust the Church to take care of their kids’ spiritual development.

The Church has reinforced this idea that parents should leave spiritual training to the children’s ministry “experts” by separating family members to their own age groups as soon as they walk through the church doors. There’s not a sense that the church and family are a seamless team with the same goals. When picking their kids up, parents are usually satisfied if their child has simply learned a little about the Bible and been well behaved during church. And what we expect is often all we get. But God wants so much more for our children, and so do we.

Wellness Policy
Every effort possible is made to protect the health and safety of the children in our care. Parent cooperation in helping prevent the spread of communicable disease is of great importance. for the child’s own protection and of others in the program, parents should keep sick children at home. A child who is ill upon arrival to their classroom will not be admitted. If your child starts exhibiting any signs of illness after being dropped off at any of our programming, you will be notified immediately and will need to take your child home.

The Nursing Mothers’ Room
We have provided a room just for nursing mothers that enables you to enjoy the service while attending to your child. The room is darkened, turning the glass wall into a one-way window to provide you both a view of the Worship Center as well as the privacy you need as you attend to your child. The nursing mother’s room is located between the two main-level entrances to the Worship Center and can only be accessed from doors in the hall outside the Worship Center.

The Cry Room
If your child was unable to settle into his or her classroom, or for some other reason was not checked into the Children’s Ministry program, then this room is available. Because this area is often crowded, we politely request that only one parent accompany their child in this room. The cry room is located between the two main-level entrances of the Worship Center.
