Back to School

Back to School time is busy for everyone, whether you have kids, are a kid, or not. At Back to School time, we host events that support families through this busy time of year.

Here's a report from our 2011 Event:

Starting school was a lot more exciting (and easier) for the thousands of children and their families who benefitted from IBCer's efforts through the Back to School Event on August 17. Backpacks and supplies were given away along with haircuts and medical exams. Attendees were made comfortable through meals and entertainment, all made possible through over 140 volunteers of all ages. When you add up the total giving effort at IBC with that for our partner events (including the Irving ISD back to school event at Irving Mall) over 7,000 adults and children experienced the generosity of IBCers following the call to serve our community well. By the numbers:

  • 1,300 backpacks with supplies collected
  • 149 haircuts for kids
  • 1,700 hotdogs served
  • 35 makeovers for moms
  • 40 dental/medical exams

IBC Senior Pastor, Andy McQuitty noted:

"I think Jesus smiled to see his people taking care of the least among us at IBC last Wednesday night. The "Back to School" event was all about launching over 2,000 precious ones into the school year not only with backpacks and supplies for the classroom, but also haircuts and shoes and physicals with food and fun and encouragement that God loves them and so do we. I know it made me smile. The gospel lived out like that always does!"

In all, almost $14,000 was given towards backpacks. For those who attended or volunteered at the Back to School Event, the lasting impact could be seen on the faces of those who received them.
