Small groups at IBC exist to cultivate deep relationships that advance the kingdom of God in dark places. That means dark places in our world, in our relationships and in our hearts. We do that in the context of sermon-based bible studies that meet in homes to share meals, insights and lives. Groups comprise 12 people or fewer and are formed by leaders who have completed small group leader training.
Why Groups Exist
At IBC, small groups exist to cultivate deep relationships among our members that advance the kingdom of God in dark places. The goal is true, authentic, lifelong relationships that God uses for his glory.
What Groups Do
Groups meet weekly in homes to eat, pray and learn. The curriculum, based on each Sunday's sermon, invites members to dig deeper into the scripture passage and also share their viewpoints and life experiences.
What Makes A Successful Group
Small Groups at IBC are about quality over quantity. More than growing numbers, our vision is to grow deep community. So IBC small groups strive to develop three characteristics:
Authenticity: No masks. Group members share their fears and failures and love one another through them.
Interdependence: Not codependence, but a healthy dose of relying on one another and being reliable.
Mission: It wouldn't be IBC if it wasn't about getting outside the walls.
How Groups Are Formed
An IBC small group comprises 12 people or fewer, invited to the group by its leader. Applicants do not choose or "shop for" groups. Group leaders choose members based on their relationships with them and / or demographic information that the member provides on his small group application. Groups meet in 10-week sessions.
