Back to School Event | Single Parents

08/14/2010
2:00 pmto5:00 pm

What is the Back to School event you may ask? It is a way to get kids from single parent families ready for a terrific school year, and a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community. We will host this special event on Saturday August 14th from 2-5pm in Town Square.

We anticipate about 1500 attendees this year, and our goal is to provide FREE backpacks, school supplies and shoe gift cards to about 500 children at this event. We will also provide medical and dental exams, haircuts, a gently worn clothing exchange, and ice cream sundaes for these special families.

This is a great opportunity to open the doors of IBC, and let the people of our neighborhood take a look at what we do around here. If you would like more information, you have clothing to donate, you would like to volunteer for this event, or to contribute financially…Click to email Marsha Tribbet or Click to email Jennifer Erlenbusch or stop by the Single Parent Ministry kiosk in Town Square on Sunday.

To volunteer to help, please register using the link below.

6:30 pmto8:30 pm

Hello Ladies, it is with great joy to let you know that our next meeting of The Bridge will be July 14th. What an incredible evening we had last time, enjoying each other’s company and making connections with women from all different chapters of life.  We look forward to our time together again.

Lisa Svejkovsky, who last time shared her story, graciously offered to let us meet in her home this time…AND…Torie Reynolds, an IBC young adult with whom she connected (who also happens to be a chef at Hockaday) volunteered to cook the food!  So, needless to say, we’re very excited!!

We will meet Wednesday, July 14th, 6:30-8:30pm at 702 Inglenook Court, Coppell TX 75019. You will simply need to bring $8 to cover the cost of your meal.

We’d love for you to join us in continuing to build these relationships to help make IBC feel a little more like family for all of us.  Please feel free to invite your friends or those you think would benefit from being a part of this evening with us.  Click to email to RSVP  or Click to email me with any questions.  For those of you who cannot make it, have no fear, we will host one more meeting of the Bridge before year end in October.

We are grateful to be part of this family with you,

Betsy Nichols

Why the candles?

We have candles available at the front that people are welcome to come and light. White candles signify that God is currently doing something special in your life. Red candles signify that you know of someone who has come to faith this week. Basically, the visual display of the lit candles reminds everyone in the congregation that God is at work in our midst.

Communion

At IBC, we regularly observe the Lord’s Supper, a practice that Jesus instructed his disciples to do “in remembrance” of him. We sometimes call it “communion,” because it celebrates our union with God made available through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, as well as our union with other believers who share in the hope we have though Christ. You might even hear us call it “the Eucharist,” an ancient name for the practice that comes from the Greek word for giving thanks.

We come to the table to celebrate our gratitude to God for what Jesus did for us on the cross. The “fancy” word for the way we do communion is “intinction,” which just means we dip the wafer in the juice. It’s one of several ways that Christians have celebrated the Lord’s Supper for centuries. Communion at IBC is open to anyone who has placed his or her faith in Christ.

In designing our facilities, our intention was to build spaces that were available for the entire community to use. The Tubes are one of the results of that intention. This massive indoor play area is designed for children up through 5th grade and is open to the community seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. No reservations are required. The Tubes are a warm and welcoming place for all parents and their children to enjoy.

Journey Lounge

Whether you're searching for answers, are a new believer, or have been a follower of Christ for many years, we're all on this journey together. A journey to deepen our soul, to be in relationship, and to serve with mission and purpose. Sometimes it's hard to navigate that path because we share common needs, but each person's journey is unique.

So, we've created the Journey Lounge and staffed it with folks we call Journey Guides. They are there to help you with your unique journey. The Journey Lounge is open before, during and after all three worship services on Sunday.

It's located in the Town Square across from the fountain--just look for the cool sofas, comfy chairs and smiling faces. We're all meant to grow, to be in relationship and to join the mission. The Journey Lounge is a place to start.

NAIROBI, Kenya — After a long and tense debate with the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Nations has decided to withdraw 2,000 peacekeepers, far fewer than Congolese officials wanted, according to a draft resolution.

Congo is still haunted by countless armed groups, and a new rebellion recently erupted in the middle of the country. But the Congolese government has been demanding that the United Nations reduce its 20,000-plus peacekeeping force because Congolese officials see the United Nations presence as a violation of their sovereignty . . .
