Subject: Chapel in Afghanistan
I have attached a copy of a couple of photos: one of our Chapel worhip team here at KAF, and one of the Fraise (Nope, that is the correct name) chapel. I request that you keep all of in your prayers. The team members are: Robert Couture, Martin Riley, Aaron Allen, Scott Bailey, Steven Albert, Matthew Young, Dana Helmon, Chelsea Hamilton, Chen-Wai Wong, Young Yun (not in photo) Nathan Wickersham, Mandy Maddocks and Richard MacKeen.
Here’s the background on the story from Albert who is serving in Afghanistan;
The Fraise Chapel is an all-denominational chapel located on a NATO-run base: Kandahar Air Field (commonly referred to as KAF). The chapel is in use almost every day for services, practice, counseling, bible study, ect.
The pictured worship team is the Contemporary Protestant worship team. There are Traditional, Catholic, Gospel, ect. Services with their own teams/choirs. This worship team is just a bunch of volunteers from all of KAF (all nations also) that assist the Protestant Chapel chaplain in the services.
Members vary according to is on base and who does not have duty that day. Obviously Military Missions dictate availability of personnel. Our duties are to serve as the music/choir, serve communion, and otherwise help the chaplain of the day.
There is a Lead Protestant Chaplain for the Fraise Chapel is Andrew Lee but with so many chaplains onboard (every unit has one); He coordinates the Sunday speakers/pastors. And we have had a wide variety.
Albert and Kathleen Leddy have been IBC’ers for almost 27 years and have fond memories of IBC back when it was still on Finley Road. They have two sons, Trey who is 23 and Drew who is 20 who grew up at IBC from bed babies all the way thru High School.
They both have worked in the Sunday School, Middle School, High School and other ministries over the years and Kathleen helps out now with the Wednesday night cooking team. They have been members of the The Legacy Builders class for years.
Gayland is a reservist called to active duty in June and now serving with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion in Afghanistan. Please remember Gayland and all the other men and women who are serving a long, long way from their families.
